The epically beautiful, crescent-shaped bay of Weligama lies at the heart of southern Sri Lanka's millenia-old fishing community. The coastal town's inhabitants today are predominantly of Muslim-faith. There is a mosque situated right on the eastern edge of the bay overlooking the ocean and Taprobane island. When you surf here at sunset on a calm day you can hear the call to prayer reverberate across the water.
