-- Premium Open Edition Print -- XI Vuelta Ciclista a Mallorca, 1952.
Illustrator: J. Pla commissioned by Diario Baleares and Grupo Minaco.
Original letterpress and lithography designed and printed by Imprenta Nueva Balear in 1952.
Remastered art edition produced by The Poster Design Group® (UK) Ltd. on behalf of Imprenta Nueva Balear and Stick No Bills® Poster Art.
The eleventh Mallorca cyclist race promoted in this poster was sponsored by Diario Baleares and Grupo Minaco. Nueva Balear’s archive of the original vintage cycling lithographs they printed are testimony to the fact that even before the first Tour De Espana in 1935 formalised interest, Mallorca's outstanding road system has made the island a veritable paradise for cycling fanatics. Much of the now-UNESCO world heritage registered Traumantana Mountain range's most challenging peaks and furthest flung coves can be reached thanks to the ingenious feats of engineering orchestrated by visionary Mallorquin designer Antonio Parietti in the 1920s and 30s. Parietti's serpentine roads have afforded millions of motorists, hikers and cyclists to date breathtaking climbs and spectacular descents to epic Cap De Formentor via Pollensa to Grand Canyon-on-the-sea-like Sa Calobra, to stunning Soller, Deia and Banyabulfer. By the mid 1990s Mallorca ranked amongst the most desirable cycling destinations on the planet with over one hundred thousand cyclists visiting the island annually by 2019.
