This image was the first Nueva Balear vintage poster identified by Stick No Bills Poster Art’s founders as of high historical and aesthetic import in the global graphic arena. In August 1931 Club España organised the second open water race across Palma´s Port - with sport fanatic Egyptian Prince Salah El Din Fouad and his wife present to bear witness and champagne uncorked in celebration. Miss Shafer of Germany and young Jaime Servera were proclaimed champions of the swimming event. According to El Mundo Deportivo “the celebration held at Club España was extremely lively, taking place amidst the greatest enthusiasm and good humour of those gathered.” As such, the cheerful culmination to this seminal sporting event - and the iconic poster that helped make it a success in the first place - were prescient of the athletic, creative, hedonistic, sunlit lifestyle Mallorca has offered to so many from all over the world over the years.
