Our inaugural collection from Pan American-Grace Airways (Panagra), trademarked courtesy of Braniff International Airways, is the first time these works have ever been remastered and revived under official license.
Owners of Pan American-Grace Airways legacy archives since their merger in 1967, Braniff International Airways has entrusted Stick No Bills with this remarkable revival project to ensure the best of the Panagra posters can be preserved and enjoyed for generations to come.
Pan American-Grace Airways was formed as a joint venture between what was then called Pan American World Airways and the Grace Shipping Company in 1928. Its pioneering flight was from Lima to Talara, Peru, in a little Fairchild P-1 monoplane, carrying just a few letters and four passengers. They departed from a racetrack in Lima and landed on a soccer pitch in Talara, an inaugural flight which also marked the advent of scheduled air travel along South America’s Pacific coastline.
From this initial 1928 journey to the introduction of direct flights to New York in 1966, Panagra played a pivotal role in connecting North and South America. In 1967, the airline was integrated into Braniff International Airways, creating the most extensive U.S.-based carrier service to South America.
Comments Meg Gage Williams, Stick No Bills Founder and CEO: “With 36 million international travellers visiting South America in 2024, I am sure these stunning images will resonate far and wide. These seminal images are imbued with a sense of adventure and exploration that still resonates today.”
Adds Ben Cass, Chairman of Braniff International: “Originally designed by Panagra and Pan American’s South American advertising firm, the legendary J. Walter Thompson, based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, these remarkable and colourful posters are made possible from our archival corporate files. Because these posters were created in Latin America, they are still copyright protected today, ensuring they will retain their value and uniqueness for decades to come."
